Respect & Empathy

Respect, Empathy & Ethical Citizenship

Respect & Empathy are not abstract ideals at Eungai Preschool – they are lived, modelled and embedded across every layer of our curriculum.

These values guide our interactions, decision making, environment design and our understanding of children as capable, emotionally rich human beings who are learning how to take their place in a community.

Our aim is to nurture compassionate, ethical, young citizens who engage with others – and with the world – with fairness, curiosity and care.

Our Guidance Approach supports this outcome by framing behaviour as a window into developing understanding of themselves and others.

Rather than enforcing compliance, we guide children to consider the impact of their actions. Through calm dialogue, conflict resolution and educator modelling, children learn empathy:

‘How might they be feeling?’

‘What do you think they need?’

‘How can we make this right?’

These reflective moments teach children to slow down, attune to others and act with kindness and intention.

Rituals and routines are intentionally designed to strengthen community bonds. Shared meals, group meetings, bush adventures, tidy up routines and collaborative projects all require co-operation, inclusion and mutual support. In these everyday moments children practise taking turns, offering help, sharing materials, welcoming others and making space for different viewpoints. They learn that belonging is something we all help create.
